Rohit Sharma surpasses 6000 runs for Mumbai Indians; MI climb to top of IPL 2025 table with sixth straight victory and first win in Jaipur since 2012.
Jaipur, May 2:
Mumbai Indians (MI) continued their remarkable turnaround in IPL 2025 with a resounding 100-run victory over Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Thursday. With this win, MI registered their sixth consecutive triumph, equalling their longest winning streak in IPL history — previously achieved in 2008 and 2017.
Chasing a daunting target of 218 set by MI, Rajasthan Royals were bundled out for just 117, crumbling under pressure as bowlers Trent Boult and Karn Sharma wreaked havoc with three wickets apiece. The victory also marked MI’s first win in Jaipur against RR since 2012, ending a four-match losing streak at the venue.
The 100-run margin is MI’s third-largest victory in IPL history. Only Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have more 100+ run wins (four) in the tournament’s history. For Rajasthan, it was their second-heaviest defeat by runs, after their 112-run loss to RCB in 2023.
This win has propelled Mumbai Indians to the top of the points table for the first time since April 17, 2021 — an impressive turnaround after beginning the season with four losses in their first five matches.
Adding to the day’s milestones, MI veteran Rohit Sharma crossed 6000 runs for the franchise in T20 cricket. The opener scored 53 runs in the match, becoming only the second player in history to reach this landmark for a single T20 franchise — after Virat Kohli’s 8871 runs for Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
Rohit now has 6024 runs for MI in 231 appearances, reaffirming his position as the franchise’s all-time leading scorer and one of the league’s greatest stalwarts.
With MI peaking at the right time, they now look like strong contenders for a deep playoff run, while Rajasthan Royals are left searching for answers after yet another disappointing defeat.
