Gujarat Titans skipper Shubman Gill reflects on tactical shifts, rain delays, and late-game drama after edging Mumbai Indians via DLS in a thriller that snapped MI’s six-match winning streak.
Mumbai, May 7: Gujarat Titans (GT) captain Shubman Gill opened up about the nerve-wracking rain-hit encounter against Mumbai Indians (MI) at Wankhede Stadium, where his side clinched a narrow three-wicket win via the DLS method in the ongoing IPL 2025.
Acknowledging the disruption caused by rain and the tricky pitch conditions, Gill noted, “There was a little bit of chaos when we came into bat after the rain, but it’s always good to walk away with a win. The pitch slowed down due to the rain, and hitting big shots wasn’t easy. So our plan was simple — wait for the ball in our zone and go for it.”
Gill was awarded Player of the Match for his crucial knock of 43 runs, which kept GT steady through a tense chase. He admitted that the Titans’ mid-innings collapse — losing 4 wickets for 20 runs — had created uncertainty. “It was frustrating; we were ahead at one stage but then stumbled. But sometimes the universe gives you one last shot — and we took it,” he said, referencing the rain break and final over drama.
The match was interrupted twice due to rain, first after the 14th over and again post the 18th, when GT needed 24 off 12 balls. At that point, MI were five runs ahead on the DLS par score. However, play resumed just in time for a dramatic one-over showdown, and GT surged to victory — handing MI their first loss after a six-game winning streak.

Gill also lauded teammate Rashid Khan, who returned to form with the ball after recovering from injury. “It’s great to see Rashid bowl well again. He’s worked hard in the nets and showed real fight today. Wins like these are important in a tournament like the IPL — they build momentum.”
With this crucial victory, GT now top the IPL 2025 table, keeping their playoff ambitions firmly intact.
