Gujarat Titans (GT) captain Shubman Gill provided one of the most lighthearted moments of the IPL 2026 season so far during the clash against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Ekana Stadium.
After a string of unlucky coin flips, Gill finally won his first toss of the season on Sunday. The young skipper couldn’t hide his relief, breaking into a joyous celebration with his hands raised and a wide grin as soon as the official formalities were over.
Opting to bowl first, Gill noted the importance of consistency and the relief of securing points in their previous outing. “It’s always good to have a total on the board and then try to chase it down,” Gill told broadcaster Murali Karthik, emphasizing that the team is looking to play clinical cricket to avoid the “down to the wire” finishes that have defined their season so far. The win was a psychological boost for the skipper, who has been vocal about the high-pressure nature of every two points in the standings.
On the other side, Lucknow Super Giants opted for stability, fielding an unchanged XI from their match against KKR. Despite the toss loss, LSG remains a formidable opponent at home. Interestingly, the head-to-head record remains tightly contested, with Gujarat holding a narrow 4-3 lead over Lucknow. As the game kicked off, all eyes remained on Gill to see if his luck with the coin would translate into a dominant performance on the field.
