Emerging sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has credited his disciplined mindset and unwavering focus on basics following a sensational match-winning performance for the Rajasthan Royals. The youngster, who played a pivotal role in dismantling the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) bowling attack, emphasized his core mantra: “play the ball and not the bowler,” regardless of the reputation of the man at the other end.

During the high-stakes chase, Sooryavanshi showcased stunning audacity, particularly against seasoned veterans. He dismantled the RCB opening attack by smashing Bhuvneshwar Kumar for consecutive boundaries before turning his sights on Josh Hazlewood, plundering 19 runs in a single over. His clean, powerful hitting saw 15 of his 26 deliveries reach the boundary, effectively ending the contest before it truly began.

Staying Grounded Amidst the Hype
Despite the whirlwind of success in IPL 2026, the teenager remains rooted, citing the influence of his support system. Reflecting on his mental preparation, Sooryavanshi noted:
“I just try to back my strengths and execute what I have done in practice. Of course, in the back of the mind, you know who the bowler is. But then, I try to play the ball and not the bowler.”
He further credited his father and his mentor, Romi sir, for keeping him focused on the long-term journey rather than immediate fame. “They keep on telling me that the journey is long. So, I have to be focused on my game and not anything else,” he added.
A Bitter-Sweet Finish
While his 78-run knock placed Rajasthan in a commanding position, the young left-hander was visibly disappointed with his dismissal off Krunal Pandya. Ever the perfectionist, Sooryavanshi expressed regret over not finishing the game himself, despite Dhruv Jurel eventually sealing the six-wicket victory.
“If I stay in the middle, I know that we can reach the target an over or two earlier,” Sooryavanshi remarked. “So, if I get out playing a loose shot, it disappoints me.” With this win, the Rajasthan Royals continue their dominant run, solidifying their spot at the top of the table.
