Tracing the Journeys of IPL Orange Cap Winners from the First Three Seasons
The Indian Premier League (IPL) commence with immense fervour as Indian fans had welcomed the new format with open hands after India had just clinched the maiden edition of T20 World Cup 2007. In the first edition of the IPL, eight teams contested for the trophy and Rajasthan Royals emerged as the maiden champions. The subsequent edition was won by Deccan Chargers and the 2009 edition was won by Chennai Super Kings.

Orange cap is provided for the player who scored most runs in the tournament and Purple cap is awarded to the player picking most wickets which comes with a cash prize too. - Shaun Marsh (IPL 2008)
Shaun Marsh represented Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) in IPL 2008 and was the highest runs scorer of the tournament. He was awarded the cap for scoring 616 runs at an average of 68.44 across 11 games. He last played in IPL 2017 and was seen playing in the Big Bash League, before he decided to hang boots from all forms of cricket in January 2024.
- Matthew Hayden (IPL 2009)
The iconic Australian opener gave the Indian fans several moments to cheer. The southpaw represented Chennai Super Kings in 2009 and became the highest run scorer. He amassed 572 runs at an average of 52. He played one more season for CSK and said adios to the IPL. - Sachin Tendulkar (IPL 2010)
Sachin Tendulkar was the icon player of Mumbai Indians and he was their first captain as well. He played for the franchise till 2014 before he called it off from all forms of cricket. His high point as a batter came in 2010 as he won the IPL Orange Cap, scoring 618 runs at an average of 47.53 across 15 games.
