Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s jaw-dropping century for Rajasthan Royals against Gujarat Titans in IPL 2025 may have lit up Jaipur, but it has also sparked a heated debate off the field.

The 14-year-old, playing only his third IPL match, smashed a blistering 101 off 38 balls, becoming the youngest-ever centurion in T20 cricket. His innings, featuring eight fours and 11 sixes, powered Rajasthan Royals to a thumping eight-wicket win, chasing down 210 runs with 25 balls to spare at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium.

However, after the match, Gujarat Titans’ captain Shubman Gill described Suryavanshi’s innings as simply a “lucky day,” saying,

“It was his day. His hitting was just tremendous, and he made full use of it.”

This comment did not sit well with former India star Ajay Jadeja, who called out the dismissal of such a historic achievement.

“A 14-year-old to believe in himself, to take it that far… even if it’s, you know, one day — like some player on television just said, ‘oh, it was his lucky day’ — it’s much more than that,” Jadeja said passionately on JioStar.

Jadeja, who was visibly emotional, added:

“All of us who dreamt of cricket at that age, this is what dreams are made of. Vaibhav didn’t just dream; he went out and lived that dream. His mindset, his power, his composure — that’s what blows me away.”

💬 How Vaibhav Dismantled GT’s Attack:

  • Suryavanshi showed no respect to seasoned bowlers like Ishant Sharma, Mohammed Siraj, and Prasidh Krishna, attacking from ball one.
  • He smashed 28 runs off an Ishant over and 30 runs off Karim Janat in another, displaying fearless stroke play.
  • His partnership with Yashasvi Jaiswal yielded a staggering 166 runs for the opening wicket.
  • Vaibhav was finally dismissed for 101 off 38 balls by Prasidh Krishna, but not before receiving a standing ovation from players and fans alike.

🎯 Expert Take:

Jadeja also credited the Rahul Dravid-Vikram Rathour think tank behind Rajasthan Royals for letting the teenager play with freedom.

“They allowed him to flow, to blossom. It’s the belief and mindset that are most impressive,” he said.

While Gill’s comments may have been off-the-cuff, Jadeja’s impassioned defense has ensured that Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s incredible feat receives the respect it deserves.
