DC Clinch victory over LSG amid thrilling performance
Delhi Capitals delivered an impressive performance at Arun Jaitley Stadium, clinching a 19-run victory against Lucknow Super Giants. The match featured a standout bowling spell by Ishant Sharma and a strategic play in the death overs by Delhi’s bowlers. Despite a commendable fightback from Nicholas Pooran and Arshad Khan, Delhi moved up to fifth in the standings, finishing their season with seven wins.
During the challenging chase of 209, Lucknow stumbled early, losing their captain KL Rahul for a mere five runs to Ishant Sharma, as Mukesh Kumar secured a catch in the cover region. The score stood at 7/1 in less than an over. Although Quinton de Kock started strong, he too fell early, contributing just 12 runs.
The situation worsened for Lucknow as Axar Patel and Rishabh Pant teamed up to dismiss Marcus Stoinis. At this stage, Lucknow was 24/3. Nicholas Pooran then took charge, aggressively scoring against Delhi’s bowlers despite the early setbacks. His efforts included a rapid fifty off just 20 balls.
The match intensified as Tristan Stubbs and Khaleel Ahmed claimed critical wickets, halting the efforts of Lucknow’s lower order. The game concluded with Lucknow at 189/9, with Arshad Khan not out at 58, leaving Delhi Capitals victorious by a margin of 19 runs.
Delhi Capitals had set a formidable target earlier, led by half-centuries from Abhishek Porel and Tristan Stubbs, ending their innings at a robust 208/4. This match was crucial for Delhi to keep their playoff hopes alive.
