‘Dear Cricket, Give Me One More Chance’: Karun Nair’s 89 Sparks Emotional Comeback
April 14, 2025: It was a night to remember for Karun Nair. Making his IPL return after almost three years, the Delhi Capitals batter lit up the Arun Jaitley Stadium with a breathtaking 89 off just 40 balls against the Mumbai Indians. But beyond the fireworks, it was an emotional moment — as an old 2022 tweet by Nair resurfaced: “Dear cricket, give me one more chance.”
That plea now feels prophetic.
Coming in as an Impact Player after the early dismissal of Jake Fraser-McGurk, Nair launched a counterattack against MI’s top guns. He slammed 12 boundaries and 5 towering sixes, including a brutal assault on Jasprit Bumrah and Trent Boult. His 22-ball half-century was his first in IPL after a 7-year drought — and his knock propelled DC to 135/2 in 12 overs chasing a daunting 206.
However, his dismissal triggered a collapse that saw DC fall short by 12 runs, suffering their first loss of IPL 2025. Mumbai leg-spinner Karn Sharma, also subbed in as an Impact Player, turned the tide with 3/36, including the crucial wicket of Abhishek Porel (33) and later KL Rahul.
