Disha Patani’s Performance Cut Short During IPL 2025 Opening Ceremony, Fans Outraged Over Broadcast Snub
Kolkata, March 22 – The IPL 2025 Opening Ceremony in Kolkata kicked off with grandeur, lights, and star power. But the buzz quickly turned into backlash as fans were left disappointed when Disha Patani’s fiery performance was cut short from the live broadcast.
Disha, who stunned the Eden Gardens crowd with her high-energy dance routine, was seen briefly on screen before the commentary team abruptly took over, shifting focus to the upcoming match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
“Why did @JioCinema cut off #DishaPatani’s hot performance midway?? Such a disappointment,” one viewer raged on X (formerly Twitter).
Another joked, “Disha Patani was fine until Jio Hotstar remembered their relatives might be watching. Instant cultural awakening!”
Social media was flooded with comments demanding the uncut version of Disha’s performance, with some speculating whether the skimpy outfit or bold choreography led to the sudden switch.
“Did someone from the IPL organising committee call the producer not to show Disha’s dress?” a user asked.
Others compared her energy and global appeal to Hollywood stars:

Disha also joined Punjabi singer-rapper Karan Aujla on stage, adding to the ceremony’s entertainment value. Unfortunately, the transition on TV didn’t do justice to their collaboration, further disappointing fans who had tuned in expecting a full spectacle.
The event also featured performances by Shreya Ghoshal, and was hosted by Shah Rukh Khan, who charmed the crowd by starting a “Kohli! Kohli!” chant and dancing to Lut Put Gaya alongside Rinku Singh.
The 18th edition of the Indian Premier League kicked off with the KKR vs RCB clash at Eden Gardens. This season will span 74 matches, across 13 venues, with the final set for May 25 at the same stadium.
