India Announces Revamped Squad For Women’s ODI Tri-Series In Sri Lanka; Fresh Faces Included

April 8, 2025: India has named a revamped squad for the upcoming Women’s ODI tri-series in Sri Lanka, which will also feature South Africa.

The squad sees several fresh faces, with Kashvee Gautam, N Shree Charani, and Shuchi Upadhyay receiving their maiden national call-ups. This marks an exciting step forward in their careers as they get the opportunity to represent India at the international level.

Harmanpreet Kaur, who missed the previous series against Ireland in January, returns as captain. Alongside her, Sneh Rana, Yastika Bhatia, Arundhati Reddy, and Amanjot Kaur make their comebacks to the squad. However, Shafali Verma, despite her impressive performances in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) earlier this year, remains absent. Verma had scored 304 runs in nine innings, finishing fourth on the WPL run-scorers’ list with an outstanding strike rate of 152.76.

The squad also sees the exclusion of several players who featured in the series against Ireland, including Uma Chetry, Raghvi Bist, Sayali Satghare, Tanuja Kanwar, Minnu Mani, Priya Mishra, and Saima Thakor.

Among the fresh faces, 21-year-old Kashvee Gautam stood out in the WPL, taking 11 wickets, the most by any Indian in the tournament. Her pace and accuracy impressed the selectors, earning her a spot in the squad. N Shree Charani, 20, also impressed with her performance in the WPL, claiming four wickets in just two matches for Delhi Capitals. Shuchi Upadhyay’s stellar performance in the Senior Women’s One-Day Trophy last December earned her a well-deserved call-up. She was the third-highest wicket-taker in the tournament, taking 18 wickets at an economy rate of 3.48 and an average of 15.44, and was awarded the Player of the Tournament honor as Madhya Pradesh won the title.

This tri-series is an important preparatory stage for all three teams as they build towards the Women’s ODI World Cup, which will be held in India later this year, between September and October.

Here is the India squad for the Women’s ODI tri-series in Sri Lanka:

  • Harmanpreet Kaur (captain)
  • Smriti Mandhana (vice-captain)
