IPL 2024: All round SRH beat DC by 67 runs

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) clinched a decisive 67-run victory against Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, propelled by a century stand between openers and a high-octane inning from Jake Fraser-McGurk. The win catapulted SRH to second place in the standings with five wins from seven matches, amassing a total of 10 points, while DC languished in seventh place with only six points.

SRH set a formidable target of 267 runs, starting with Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma, who wreaked havoc on DC’s bowling lineup. Head was particularly aggressive, smashing 89 runs from just 32 balls, including 11 fours and six sixes. The pair pushed the score to 125/0 by the end of the powerplay, setting a robust foundation for their team.

DC, in response, had a rocky start to their innings. Prithvi Shaw initially dazzled with quick boundaries but was dismissed for 16 runs. Following him, David Warner exited cheaply, which further dented their chase. Fraser-McGurk then took center stage, blasting 65 runs off 18 balls in a spectacular display of hitting, including seven sixes. His effort was the highlight for DC, bringing up his fifty in just 15 balls.

Despite Fraser-McGurk’s explosive performance, DC could not maintain the momentum and eventually folded for 199 in 19.1 overs. T Natarajan was the standout bowler for SRH, claiming 4 wickets for 19 runs, decisively tilting the game in his team’s favor. Markande and Nitish Reddy supported well, each taking two wickets.

Earlier, SRH’s innings were characterized by aggressive batting and strategic play. After a quick start, DC’s spinners Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel managed to apply some brakes in the middle overs. Kuldeep took four wickets, but the damage was already done by SRH’s explosive opening and middle overs.

The game highlighted SRH’s batting depth and their ability to post a high total. Conversely, DC’s inconsistent bowling and their inability to form lasting partnerships with the bat underscored their struggles in the league so far.
