IPL 2025: Mohammed Siraj Excited to Bowl to Virat Kohli for the First Time in IPL Clash
Kolkata, March 25: As the IPL 2025 season unfolds, one of the most anticipated on-field battles will be between Gujarat Titans (GT) pacer Mohammed Siraj and his former RCB teammate and mentor Virat Kohli. Siraj, now in GT colours, will face Kohli on April 2 in Bengaluru, marking the first time he’ll bowl to the Indian legend in a competitive match.
“I’ve bowled to him countless times in the nets for Team India, but doing it in a real match will be something special. I’m really excited,” Siraj told Boria Majumdar on Backstage with Boria Season 6.
GT will begin their IPL 2025 campaign against Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the Narendra Modi Stadium on March 26, but all eyes are on the April 2 showdown in Bengaluru where emotions are bound to run high.
Siraj, who joined RCB in 2018 after a stint with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), played 87 matches for the franchise, claiming 83 wickets and becoming the third-highest wicket-taker in RCB history behind Yuzvendra Chahal and Harshal Patel.
“Virat bhai was one of my biggest supporters. Playing under him made me who I am today,” Siraj added.
Despite a grueling schedule, Siraj said he continues to push his limits out of sheer love for the game.
“After five Test matches, I still went and bowled 40 overs in Ranji Trophy. I forget the pain once I enter the field. If I don’t take wickets, I think—what else can I do to help my team? That’s the mindset I train for,” he explained.
Siraj last played for Hyderabad in Ranji Trophy in January 2025, taking four wickets in a game against Vidarbha. He wasn’t picked for India’s ICC Champions Trophy-winning squad, but his hunger to prove himself remains intact.
Siraj also shared his personal philosophy on humility and gratitude.
“All this—money, fame, pride—you can’t take it with you. I still go and sit where I used to as a kid because it gives me peace. If God has given me more than I need, how can I not help others?” he said.
Siraj had his best-ever IPL season in 2023, picking 19 wickets in 14 matches at an economy rate of 7.50. Last year, he took 15 wickets, and although RCB made a late comeback, they fell short in the eliminator against Rajasthan Royals.
Now with Gujarat Titans, Siraj is ready for a new chapter and can’t wait for that electrifying face-off with Virat.
