IPL 2025: SRH Skipper Pat Cummins Reflects on Missed Finals Despite Stunning Last-Game Victory
New Delhi [India], May 26 – Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) skipper Pat Cummins shared his thoughts on the team’s late surge in IPL 2025, reflecting on their powerful batting display in their final league game against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and the missed chance to reach the playoffs.
Speaking after SRH’s 110-run thrashing of KKR at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Sunday, Cummins expressed satisfaction with how the team finished the season but acknowledged that their talent level should have carried them further.
“Amazing finish. The last few games of the season, lots of things clicked, and it was scary to watch that kind of batting,” Cummins said at the post-match presentation. “With the calibre of the players we have, we can’t play any worse than what we did earlier. With the players we have, we should be making the finals. This year we didn’t.”
Cummins pointed out the importance of capitalizing on batting-friendly conditions, saying, “We get wickets like here, we’ve got to max out and get 250-260, and other ones where we need to graft and get to 170, which we didn’t.”
SRH’s final match of the season showcased their batting prowess, posting a massive 278/3—the third-highest total in IPL history—powered by Heinrich Klaasen’s rapid 105 and Travis Head’s 76. KKR’s chase never got off the ground, crumbling to 168 all out as SRH’s bowling trio—Jaydev Unadkat, Eshan Malinga, and Harsh Dubey—each picked up three wickets.
The loss left KKR in eighth place with five wins, seven losses, and one no result, while SRH ended sixth with six wins, seven losses, and one no result.
Despite the disappointment of missing the playoffs, Cummins’ focus on growth and maximizing opportunities suggests SRH will be determined to return stronger next season.
