IPL 2025: SRH vs PBKS- Mohammed Shami Concedes 75 Runs in 4 Overs, Registers Most Expensive Spell by an Indian in IPL History
Hyderabad, April 12:
Veteran Indian pacer Mohammed Shami endured a nightmarish outing during SunRisers Hyderabad’s (SRH) clash against Punjab Kings (PBKS) in IPL 2025, conceding a whopping 75 runs in just four overs, making it the second-most expensive bowling spell in IPL history and the worst-ever by an Indian bowler in the league.

The previous record for the most expensive spell by an Indian was held by Mohit Sharma, who gave away 73 runs for Gujarat Titans against Delhi Capitals in IPL 2024.
Shami’s forgettable performance now sits behind only Jofra Archer’s record of conceding 76 runs in 4 overs, set against SunRisers Hyderabad in a past season.

Batting first, Punjab Kings put up a formidable 245/6 in their 20 overs. The carnage began with openers Priyansh Arya (36 off 13) and Prabhsimran Singh (42 off 23) adding 66 runs in quick time. But it was captain Shreyas Iyer, who stole the show with a scintillating 82 off just 36 deliveries, laced with 6 fours and 6 sixes.
Late fireworks were provided by Marcus Stoinis, who remained unbeaten on 34, taking PBKS past the 240-mark.
While Shami’s expensive spell grabbed headlines for the wrong reasons, Harshal Patel emerged as SRH’s best bowler with 4/42, and Eshan Malinga chipped in with 2/45. No other bowler, however, could control the bleeding runs as PBKS’s aggressive approach dismantled the Hyderabad bowling unit.
Brief Scores:
PBKS: 245/6 (Shreyas Iyer 82, Prabhsimran Singh 42, Marcus Stoinis 34*; Harshal Patel 4/42, Eshan Malinga 2/45)
