Rajasthan Royals skipper hails Mitchell Starc’s final-over heroics as DC clinch Super Over victory in a nail-biting IPL 2025 thriller at Arun Jaitley Stadium.

New Delhi, April 17: In a pulsating finish at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Mitchell Starc’s last-over brilliance pushed the high-stakes clash between Delhi Capitals (DC) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) into the first Super Over of IPL 2025, where DC emerged victorious in emphatic style.

With RR needing just 9 runs from the final over, Starc, true to his reputation, produced a masterclass under pressure—conceding only 8 runs and forcing the match into a Super Over.

“Fantastic bowling by Starcy. He’s one of the best in the world. He won them the game in the 20th over,” said RR skipper Sanju Samson, who watched the tense finish from the sidelines due to a back injury.

⚔️ Super Over Showdown

Rajasthan batted first in the Super Over and posted 11 runs, but KL Rahul and Tristan Stubbs calmly chased it down in just four deliveries off Sandeep Sharma, sealing a thrilling win for Delhi.

Despite the loss, Samson praised his team’s efforts:

“We bowled well, the energy on the ground was fantastic. The target was chaseable, especially with the start we had in the Powerplay.”

Samson also acknowledged Sandeep Sharma’s contributions, especially under pressure:

“Sandeep has been bowling the toughest overs for us for years. But today, Starcy just took it away.”

👨‍⚕️ Injury Update

Addressing his fitness, Samson noted:

“It feels alright now. I wasn’t ready to come back and bat, but we’ll assess it tomorrow.”

🏏 What Lies Ahead

RR, who looked set for victory for most of the match, now look to regroup as they aim to build momentum in the second half of the season. Samson concluded with a tinge of regret:

“A win today could have lifted the dressing room’s spirit. But we’ll bounce back.”

With DC gaining two crucial points and Starc reaffirming his elite status, the match will go down as one of the most dramatic encounters of IPL 2025 so far.
