Maxwell Regrets Missing SRH Clash: “Would Have Been a Thriller

Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has taken a break from the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) to recharge both physically and mentally. However, he admitted that missing out on the game against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) was a tough pill to swallow.

In a high-scoring encounter where boundaries poured like rain, RCB faced a 25-run defeat against SRH at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Monday. Travis Head and Heinrich Klaasen’s stellar performances propelled SRH to a record-breaking score of 287/3, making it a thrilling showdown.

Reflecting on the match, Maxwell expressed his disappointment at sitting out, especially after witnessing the pitch’s favorable conditions during the powerplay. “It was a bad game to miss; it would have been nice to be out there batting,” Maxwell shared with a smile during the post-match press conference.

Maxwell’s IPL journey this season has been challenging, managing only 32 runs in six innings with an average of 5.33, including three ducks. However, he remains optimistic about returning stronger and making a significant impact for his team.

Opening up about his decision to take a break, Maxwell explained, “I felt it was probably time we tried someone else. I have been in this situation in the past where you can keep playing and get yourself deeper into a hole.”

Maxwell’s absence opens up an opportunity for another player to showcase their skills and stake a claim for a permanent spot in the team. Despite his recent struggles, Maxwell’s past performances highlight his potential to turn the tables and deliver match-winning performances.

While his form in the IPL hasn’t been up to the mark, Maxwell’s track record in T20 cricket showcases his ability to shine under pressure. With two centuries and an impressive average of 42.46 in his last 17 T20 games, Maxwell remains a formidable force in the cricketing world.

Acknowledging the unpredictable nature of T20 cricket, Maxwell remains focused on regaining his rhythm and getting back to basics. “T20 cricket can be like that sometimes – it’s a pretty fickle game,” he admitted.

As Maxwell takes a breather to recharge and refocus, fans eagerly await his return to the field, hoping to witness the magic of his bat once again in the thrilling arena of the IPL.
