"Our batting was very average": Shubman Gill on team's poor performance
After a disappointing performance against Delhi Capitals (DC) in a recent Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match, Gujarat Titans (GT) captain Shubman Gill critiqued his team’s performance as “very average.”
Despite a favorable pitch at the Narendra Modi Stadium, DC’s bowlers, along with effective innings from Jake Fraser-McGurk, Abhishek Porel, and Shai Hope, led their team to a straightforward six-wicket victory over GT.
Gill explained that the pitch wasn’t to blame for their poor showing. “The wicket was quite alright; the dismissals were more about poor shot selection from our side than anything else,” he remarked during the post-match presentation. He emphasized the need for GT to overcome this setback quickly, noting, “When you’re only defending 89, it’s tough to stay competitive unless someone pulls off something extraordinary like a double hat-trick.”
Looking forward, Gill remained optimistic about the remainder of the season, saying, “This is just the halfway mark for us. We’ve secured three wins so far, and hopefully, we’ll replicate or improve upon our performance from the past few years by winning another five to six of our remaining seven matches.”
