Parthiv Patel Labels Glenn Maxwell as ‘Most Overrated’ in IPL History

Former Indian cricketer Parthiv Patel has expressed strong criticism of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) all-rounder Glenn Maxwell, calling him the “most overrated” player in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL). This remark followed RCB’s recent match against Gujarat Titans (GT) at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, where despite Maxwell’s lackluster performance, RCB secured a four-wicket victory.

Maxwell, who managed just four runs from three balls at a strike rate of 133.33 during the game, has had a disappointing season overall. Reflecting his frustration, Patel took to his official X (formerly Twitter) account to voice his opinion: “Glenn Maxwell….HE IS THE MOST OVERRATED player in the history of IPL,” Patel posted on X.

In the current IPL season, Maxwell’s performance has been underwhelming, with only 104 runs scored across eight matches and five wickets taken at an economy rate of 8.33.

The match itself saw RCB initially struggle after opting to field first. GT was reeling at 19/3 but managed a recovery through a crucial 61-run partnership between Shahrukh Khan (37) and David Miller (30). However, RCB’s consistent bowling attack, led by Yash Dayal (2/21), Vijaykumar Vyshak (2/23), and Mohammed Siraj (2/29), kept the pressure on, eventually restricting GT to 147 runs.

RCB’s chase was anchored by Faf Du Plessis (64) and Virat Kohli (42), who together put up a 92-run opening stand. The middle overs saw a collapse triggered by Joshua Little (4/45) and Noor Ahmed (2/23), but RCB found its heroes in Dinesh Karthik (21*) and Swapnil Singh (15*), who steered the team to a comfortable win with plenty of balls to spare.
