Punjab Kings (PBKS) registered an impressive five-wicket victory over Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in their IPL 2026 clash at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Friday, successfully chasing down a daunting target of 210.

Despite a brilliant batting effort led by young sensation Ayush Mhatre, CSK’s total of 209/9 proved insufficient as PBKS produced a composed and effective chase.

Ayush Mhatre Creates History at Chepauk

The highlight of CSK’s innings was an outstanding performance from 18-year-old Ayush Mhatre, who smashed 73 runs off just 43 deliveries. His knock included six boundaries and five sixes, showcasing maturity and fearless stroke play.

With this innings, Mhatre became the youngest player to score a half-century at the iconic Chepauk stadium, achieving the feat at just 18 years and 261 days.

After an early setback with Sanju Samson departing cheaply for 7, Mhatre stitched a crucial 95-run partnership with skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad (28), stabilising the innings and putting CSK in a strong position.

Late Cameo Boosts CSK Total

CSK received additional momentum in the death overs thanks to a quickfire cameo from Sarfaraz Khan, who hammered 32 runs off just 12 balls.

However, the innings lost some steam as big-money signing Kartik Sharma failed to deliver, managing just one run from three deliveries.

On the bowling front for PBKS, Vijaykumar Vyshak stood out with figures of 2/38, helping restrict CSK below what looked like a potentially bigger total.

Punjab Kings Deliver Under Pressure

Chasing 210 in Chennai is never easy, but PBKS showed composure and intent throughout their innings. The batters maintained a steady scoring rate and handled pressure situations effectively to seal the win with wickets in hand.

Their successful chase not only underlined their batting depth but also exposed gaps in CSK’s bowling attack during crucial moments.
