"Rajat Patidar Looks Really Good and Positive": Chris Gayle Backs RCB to Lift Maiden IPL Trophy
Delhi, April 13: West Indies legend Chris Gayle, fondly known as the Universe Boss, has thrown his weight behind Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) to win their first-ever IPL title this year, citing the impressive leadership of young skipper Rajat Patidar and a solid start to the season.
“They have got a beautiful start, beating Chennai in Chennai. That is fantastic,” said Gayle at the launch of Pro Cricket League Season 2, where he’ll represent Ghaziabad Bhawani Tigers.
“I’m still backing them. Hopefully, they go all the way this time. The young captain (Rajat Patidar) looks really good and positive. I hope he continues that. The senior guys around him are going to support him,” he added.
With four wins from six matches, RCB currently sit third on the points table, showing strong form in the IPL 2025 campaign.
Gayle also reserved special praise for Nicholas Pooran, hailing him as “the best T20 batter on the planet right now.”
“He is striking the ball so well. Maybe he can get 175-180 on his day. It is good to see him score so consistently,” said Gayle.
Pooran currently tops the Orange Cap leaderboard with 349 runs in six matches, boasting a jaw-dropping strike rate of over 215 and an average of 69.80. With four fifties to his name already, Pooran has smashed 26 fours and 31 sixes, making him a standout performer this season for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).
Gayle also lauded Abhishek Sharma, whose explosive 141 off 55 balls helped Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) chase down a massive 246-run target against Punjab Kings (PBKS).
“I swear I did not see it, but that was a fantastic inning. 141 in 55 balls is great. Travis Head and he are going all guns blazing. It’s great to see these left-handers dominate the IPL,” said Gayle, highlighting the power-packed opening combination.
With strong performances lighting up IPL 2025, Gayle’s support for emerging leaders like Patidar, in-form powerhouses like Pooran, and new batting sensations like Abhishek Sharma signals the changing guard in T20 cricket—one that’s thrilling fans and legends alike.
