Rohit Sharma Injury Update: MI Coach Mahela Jayawardene Hints at Return Against RCB

Mumbai Indians head coach says Rohit suffered a leg impact during practice but is likely to play after final fitness assessment before crucial IPL 2025 clash vs Royal Challengers Bengaluru

Mumbai, April 7: As Mumbai Indians (MI) gear up for their IPL 2025 home fixture against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on Monday, head coach Mahela Jayawardene offered a crucial update on star batter Rohit Sharma’s fitness, indicating he could return to the XI if he clears a final assessment.

Rohit, who featured in MI’s first three games this season, missed the previous outing against Lucknow Super Giants due to an injury sustained while batting in the nets.

“Ro looks good, he’s going to bat today as well,” Jayawardene said during the pre-match press conference. “He had an unfortunate impact on his leg during practice. He’ll have a hit today and we’ll assess his condition before making a final call.”

🔹 Form and Faith

When asked about Rohit’s recent form — which includes scores of 13, 8, and 0 — Jayawardene defended the veteran, citing the need for patience and long-term trust in experienced players.

“If you’re judging a player based on two innings, it’s unfair,” Jayawardene remarked. “My memory of Rohit’s last major innings is his Champions Trophy-winning knock. We always back our core group, and Rohit is central to that. Once he’s fully fit, we know what he can bring to the table.”

🔹 MI’s Struggles and Upcoming Challenge

Mumbai Indians currently sit eighth in the points table, with just one win in four matches. Their clash against RCB at the Wankhede Stadium could be a turning point in their season, especially with Jasprit Bumrah also returning to the side.
