Sanjay Manjrekar Highlights Injury Concerns Around Shami Ahead of IPL 2025 Mega-Auction

New Delhi, November 20: Former cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar has expressed concerns over Indian pacer Mohammed Shami’s recent injury struggles and their potential impact on his valuation in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega-auction. While Shami’s triumphant return to competitive cricket in the Ranji Trophy was a promising sign, Manjrekar noted that IPL franchises may approach his availability with caution.

Shami made headlines with a stellar performance for Bengal in their narrow 11-run win against Madhya Pradesh, claiming seven wickets in the Ranji Trophy clash. This marked Shami’s return to domestic cricket after a year-long injury layoff.

“There will definitely be interest from teams, but given Shami’s injury history—and this recent one took a significant amount of time to recover—there’s always a concern about a potential breakdown during the season,” said Manjrekar.

He added, “If a franchise invests heavily and loses him mid-season, it limits their options. This concern could lead to a dip in Shami’s price tag at the IPL 2025 mega-auction.”

Shami’s IPL track record is impressive. In the 2023 season, he clinched the Purple Cap with 28 wickets in 17 innings at an economy rate of 8.04. Despite his consistent performances, his fitness remains a key factor for franchises weighing their investment options.
