May-3, 2025: Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill was at the center of both brilliance and banter during his side’s 38-run win over Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2025. After a fiery exchange with the umpire over a DRS decision, Gill was seen playfully kicking SRH opener Abhishek Sharma — a moment that quickly went viral online.

The incident unfolded during the 14th over of SRH’s chase. Abhishek, who was in fine form with a 74-run knock off 41 balls, had just survived an LBW appeal. The umpire’s call didn’t sit well with Gill, who was seen engaging in a heated debate with the officials. In fact, it was Abhishek who stepped in to defuse the situation and calm his fellow Punjab teammate.

Soon after, while Abhishek was receiving treatment from SRH physios, Gill walked up to him and jokingly nudged him with a light kick — possibly teasing him for delaying play.

The video of the moment, capturing Gill’s mix of frustration and camaraderie, quickly went viral, adding a touch of levity to an otherwise intense match.

Earlier, Gill had lit up the first innings with a classy 76 off 38 balls, smashing 10 fours and 2 sixes. Supported by Jos Buttler’s fifty and B Sai Sudharsan’s quickfire 48, GT posted a daunting 224/6 in their 20 overs. Jaydev Unadkat was the pick of the bowlers for SRH with 3 wickets.

Abhishek, in reply, led SRH’s charge with a stroke-filled 74, but his dismissal shortly after the incident with Gill signaled the beginning of the end for Hyderabad’s chase.

Despite missing out on a century for the third consecutive game — after scores of 90 and 84 — Gill continues to impress with his consistency and aggression at the top.
