Sunil Gavaskar Steps In: Vinod Kambli To Receive ₹30,000 Monthly Support Amid Health and Financial Crisis

Legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar’s CHAMPS Foundation comes to the aid of struggling ex-India batsman Vinod Kambli, offering monthly financial and medical support.

April 15, 2025: Former Indian cricketer Vinod Kambli, once hailed as one of India’s most promising talents, is now battling severe health issues and financial distress. Kambli, who represented India in 17 Tests and 104 ODIs, has been in the spotlight for his deteriorating condition, both physically and economically.

In December 2024, he was admitted to Akruti Hospital in Thane due to a urinary infection and severe cramps. As updates about his condition surfaced, so did news of his worsening financial troubles. That’s when cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar came forward to lend a helping hand.

💛 Gavaskar Fulfills His Promise

During the inauguration of coach Ramakant Achrekar’s memorial at Mumbai’s Shivaji Park in December 2024, Gavaskar publicly promised support to Kambli. True to his word, he has now ensured Kambli will receive a monthly stipend of ₹30,000 through the CHAMPS Foundation, along with an additional ₹30,000 annually for medical assistance.

The two cricketing greats also reunited at Wankhede Stadium’s 50th anniversary event in January 2025.

🏠 Personal Struggles Off the Field

Earlier this year, Kambli’s wife Andrea Hewitt opened up about their turbulent relationship. She revealed on a podcast with journalist Suryanshi Pandey that while she had filed for divorce in 2023, she withdrew the petition after witnessing Kambli’s vulnerable state.

“He is like a child… I’d worry—has he eaten, is he okay? That’s why I couldn’t leave him,” she said emotionally.
