April 2, 2025: The Punjab Kings (PBKS) delivered a clinical performance on the field—and an equally fiery one off it—after defeating Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in IPL 2025. PBKS skipper Shreyas Iyer remained unbeaten on 52 off 30 balls, powering his team to a 7-wicket win while chasing 172 with 22 balls to spare.

But what stole the spotlight was Punjab’s witty post-match jab at Rishabh Pant, who was bought for a record-breaking ₹27 crore by LSG at the IPL 2025 mega auction.

Before the season began, Pant had said in a JioStar interview:

The punchline referred to PBKS choosing to bid for Shreyas Iyer—acquired for ₹26.75 crore—over Pant. And so far, that decision has paid off handsomely.

While Pant has struggled for form (scores of 0, 15, and 2), Iyer has been in sensational touch with 149 runs in two matches and remains undefeated. In PBKS’s first game, Iyer’s stunning 97 vs Gujarat Titans* laid the foundation for a commanding win. Against LSG, he once again anchored the chase with poise and flair.
