"Tension Auction Mein Khatam": Punjab Kings Troll Rishabh Pant After Shreyas Iyer's Heroics Seal Win
April 2, 2025: The Punjab Kings (PBKS) delivered a clinical performance on the field—and an equally fiery one off it—after defeating Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in IPL 2025. PBKS skipper Shreyas Iyer remained unbeaten on 52 off 30 balls, powering his team to a 7-wicket win while chasing 172 with 22 balls to spare.

But what stole the spotlight was Punjab’s witty post-match jab at Rishabh Pant, who was bought for a record-breaking ₹27 crore by LSG at the IPL 2025 mega auction.
Before the season began, Pant had said in a JioStar interview:
“Mera ek hi tension tha, wo tha Punjab”
(“My only tension was if I got picked by Punjab.”)
PBKS responded with a savage comeback on X (formerly Twitter), posting a clip of Iyer celebrating alongside the caption:

“Tension toh auction mein hi khatam ho gayi thi.”
(“Our tension ended right at the auction.”)
The punchline referred to PBKS choosing to bid for Shreyas Iyer—acquired for ₹26.75 crore—over Pant. And so far, that decision has paid off handsomely.
While Pant has struggled for form (scores of 0, 15, and 2), Iyer has been in sensational touch with 149 runs in two matches and remains undefeated. In PBKS’s first game, Iyer’s stunning 97 vs Gujarat Titans* laid the foundation for a commanding win. Against LSG, he once again anchored the chase with poise and flair.
The result sees Punjab Kings climb to second spot in the IPL 2025 points table, with back-to-back wins under Iyer’s leadership—extending his rich vein of form from leading KKR to the 2024 title, Mumbai to SMAT glory, and being India’s top scorer in Champions Trophy 2025.
Meanwhile, Rishabh Pant and LSG face mounting pressure as their ₹27 crore marquee man has yet to make an impact in IPL 2025.
