As COVID-19 cases rise again, Nita Ambani reminds players of safety protocols during post-match celebrations after Mumbai Indians’ thumping win over Delhi Capitals.
Mumbai, May 22, 2025 – Following Mumbai Indians’ crucial 59-run win over Delhi Capitals that secured their place in the IPL 2025 playoffs, a moment off the field caught fans’ attention. MI owner Nita Ambani was seen personally ensuring COVID-19 safety protocols were followed, pouring sanitiser onto players’ palms before congratulating them.

Health Comes First, Even In Victory
The moment was a subtle but symbolic reminder amid the recent uptick in COVID-19 cases in states like Kerala, Maharashtra, and Uttar Pradesh, where active infections have crossed 250 cases. Even the IPL has seen its share of impact, with SRH’s Travis Head missing a match after testing positive earlier this season.
MI all-rounder Deepak Chahar was also spotted moving around the field with a sanitiser bottle, offering it to both MI and DC players. Skipper Hardik Pandya was seen fist-bumping ground staff, avoiding traditional handshakes.
Clinical Win at the Wankhede
On the cricketing front, Suryakumar Yadav remained unbeaten on 73, while Naman Dhir provided a late flourish to help Mumbai post 180/5. Their bowling unit then dismantled Delhi for 121, with Mitchell Santner (3/11) and Jasprit Bumrah (3 wickets) leading the charge.

“I can throw them the ball whenever I want. They bring such control and perfection,” said MI captain Hardik Pandya after the match.

With this win, Mumbai Indians (16 points) joined Gujarat Titans, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and Punjab Kings in the IPL 2025 playoffs. Although Delhi still have one game left, they cannot surpass Mumbai and are now officially out of playoff contention.
MI’s resurgence has been remarkable—after losing four of their first five matches, the five-time champions bounced back with seven wins in their last eight games.
The playoff stage begins May 29, with the top two teams earning two chances to reach the final on June 3.
