Virat Kohli Loses Cool After Dropped Catch, Recreates Rahul Dravid’s Iconic Cap-Throw in RCB’s Win Over MI

Virat Kohli throws his cap in frustration as Yash Dayal and Jitesh Sharma botch an easy chance to dismiss Suryakumar Yadav during MI vs RCB IPL 2025 clash.

April 8, 2025: Virat Kohli’s fiery passion was on full display at the Wankhede Stadium during Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s tense clash with Mumbai Indians in IPL 2025. Despite RCB eventually emerging victorious, a moment of miscommunication and a dropped catch left Kohli fuming — and fans instantly drew comparisons with Rahul Dravid’s legendary cap-throwing meltdown from 2014.

It all unfolded during the 12th over, when Yash Dayal bowled a deceptive slower delivery that drew an edge from Suryakumar Yadav. The ball soared high, offering a golden opportunity for dismissal. But in a comedy of errors, Dayal and wicketkeeper Jitesh Sharma collided mid-attempt, failing to take the catch. Watching it all unfold up-close, Kohli threw his cap to the ground in visible frustration.

The video of Kohli’s outburst quickly went viral, reminding many fans of Rahul Dravid’s infamous reaction from a 2014 IPL match when Rajasthan Royals were knocked out of playoff contention after a last-ball defeat.

Fortunately for RCB, the damage was limited. Dayal made amends on the final ball of the over, as Liam Livingstone safely pouched a catch to send Suryakumar (28 off 26) back to the pavilion. The Mumbai batter looked far from his best and failed to provide the momentum MI needed in their steep chase of 222 runs.

Rajat Patidar Shines, Credits Bowlers

RCB’s skipper Rajat Patidar, who smashed a blistering 64 off 32 balls, was adjudged Player of the Match. However, he humbly handed the credit to his bowlers for defending the total at a ground infamous for high chases.

“To be honest, this award goes to the bowling unit,” Patidar said at the post-match presentation. “It’s never easy to stop a batting lineup like MI on this ground. Special praise for Krunal Pandya and our fast bowlers — they showed incredible control and courage.”

RCB won the match by 12 runs, marking another milestone as they defeated Mumbai Indians at Wankhede — something they hadn’t done in 10 years.
