Former Pakistan cricket legend Wasim Akram has shared a heartwarming story highlighting Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan’s dedication to his team, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). During an interaction with VU Sports, Akram recalled how SRK swiftly arranged a Boeing aircraft for the team in just an hour during the IPL 2012 season.

Akram, who served as KKR’s bowling coach from 2010 to 2016, recounted a moment when player fatigue was a concern ahead of a crucial knockout match.
“I remember in 2012, we had to travel to Kolkata for a knockout game. Our journey was going to be tiring. I requested Shah Rukh Khan if a private plane could be arranged because the boys would be exhausted,” said Akram.
“He immediately responded, ‘No problem.’ Within an hour, a full Boeing aircraft was ready for the team,” Akram added.

The gesture reflected Shah Rukh Khan’s commitment to his franchise. Notably, KKR went on to win their maiden IPL title that year by defeating Chennai Super Kings in the final.

Meanwhile, in IPL 2025, KKR’s latest match against Punjab Kings was washed out due to rain at Eden Gardens. After Punjab posted 201/4, relentless rain prevented KKR from completing their innings, forcing both teams to share a point each. KKR currently sits seventh on the points table with seven points from nine matches.
