"We're very wary of what MS Dhoni can give us": Stephen Fleming
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) head coach Stephen Fleming recently discussed the strategic management of MS Dhoni’s fitness, emphasizing the veteran’s crucial role in the team.
As CSK prepares to face the Gujarat Titans in an upcoming IPL 2024 match at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Fleming addressed concerns regarding Dhoni’s physical condition and his position in the batting order.
At a pre-match press conference, Fleming reassured fans and critics alike, urging them not to underestimate Dhoni’s contribution to the team, despite his lower batting position. “Like just hitting sixes and fours, which he has done pretty well. And keep as well as some of the best in the competition if not the best in the competition. So don’t underestimate his influence on the team just because he comes in at No. 9. There’s a timing aspect, but we’re very wary of what he can give us. And we’ll max that out,” Fleming explained, according to ESPNcricinfo.
Fleming also highlighted the careful balance the team must maintain to ensure Dhoni’s longevity in the tournament. “But we don’t want to max that out where we lose him. So it’s a delicate balance, but trust me, his best interest is with us, and his interest [is] in performing well for us is still very high. To put the nation at ease – he’s okay,” he added.
This statement from Fleming underscores the importance of Dhoni’s strategic placement and health as integral to CSK’s tactics as they continue their campaign in IPL 2024.
