Yuzvendra Chahal Joins Punjab Kings for Record Rs 18 Crore in IPL 2025 Auction

New Delhi, November 24 – Star Indian spinner Yuzvendra Chahal has been acquired by Punjab Kings (PBKS) for a staggering Rs 18 crore in the IPL 2025 mega auction. Reflecting on his record-breaking move, Chahal expressed excitement and confidence, stating that he deserved the price.

Speaking exclusively on JioCinema, Chahal shared his emotions during the auction process. “I was quite nervous and anxious because this amount is what I got in the last three seasons combined. I think I deserve this price, and I am very excited,” he said.

The Intense Bidding War

Chahal’s signing saw intense competition. Initially, Gujarat Titans (GT) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) fought for him before Punjab Kings and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) entered the fray. PBKS eventually secured Chahal for a record Rs 18 crore, making him one of the most expensive players in IPL history.

Chahal’s Stellar Career Stats

Chahal is one of the most decorated bowlers in T20 cricket:

  • International T20s: 96 wickets in 80 matches, best figures of 6/25.
  • Overall T20s: 354 wickets in 305 matches.
  • IPL: Leading wicket-taker with 205 wickets in 160 matches, averaging 22.44 with best figures of 5/44.

Chahal’s IPL journey began with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in 2014, where he remained until 2021, taking 139 wickets in 113 matches. He joined Rajasthan Royals (RR) in 2022, where he continued his dominance, winning the Purple Cap in his debut season with 27 wickets in 17 matches.

Excited to Join Punjab Kings

Chahal is looking forward to working with his new teammates and head coach Ricky Ponting. “I’m excited as my bond with Shreyas Iyer and Arshdeep Singh is strong, and I will also get to learn a lot from Ricky Ponting sir. At least I’m closer to home now. It was Jaipur initially, and now it will be Chandigarh,” he said.

PBKS Looks to Rebuild

Punjab Kings finished ninth in IPL 2024 and have not reached the playoffs since 2014, when they were runners-up. Chahal’s inclusion adds much-needed firepower to their bowling attack as they aim to reverse their fortunes in the upcoming season.
