An Unexpected Off-Field Mishap Leads to Rejection. Keeper’s Bizarre Injury Halts Crucial England Test Call-Up

July 25, 2025: The Indian cricket team’s selection committee ran into a problem while looking for a new wicket-keeper to replace the injured Rishabh Pant in the present Test series against England. Sources say that Ishan Kishan, who was the top candidate, is out because of a strange injury he got off the field.

Ishan Kishan hurt his ankle when he fell off his scooty, and N Jagadeesan will take Pant’s place.
Rishabh Pant is out of the rest of the England Test series after breaking a toe while trying to do a reverse sweep during the fourth Test in Manchester. Dhruv Jurel is now the wicketkeeper for the match, while Pant is said to need six to eight weeks of rest to heal.

After Pant got hurt, the selection committee lead by Ajit Agarkar asked Ishan Kishan to join the team in England. But Kishan reportedly said he couldn’t make it because of an ankle problem. It has recently come to light that Kishan hurt himself when he fell off a scooty and needed 10 stitches on his left ankle. He can’t travel or play right now because he has a plaster on his foot. Kishan is going to start his treatment at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru.

This sad event happened after Kishan played well in the County Championship for Nottinghamshire, when he scored 87 and 77 runs.

Since Ishan Kishan is out, it looks that N Jagadeesan, a right-handed wicketkeeper batsman from Tamil Nadu, will be Rishabh Pant’s replacement. Jagadeesan has a great first-class record, with 3373 runs in 52 matches, including 10 centuries and 14 fifties, at an average of 47.50. He has never played for his country in international cricket. He has also made 133 catches and 14 stumpings.

Jagadeesan should join the team before the fifth and last Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. The selectors’ quick decision to look at Jagadeesan shows how important it is to improve the team’s wicket-keeping options while Pant is out for a long time.
