BCCI training update suggests MI’s pace spearhead will be match-ready for KKR clash

March 25, 2026: Concerns around Jasprit Bumrah’s fitness have eased, with reports indicating that the Mumbai Indians pacer is likely to feature in their opening clash of the Indian Premier League 2026. The Mumbai Indians camp had been on edge after Bumrah reported to the Board of Control for Cricket in India Centre of Excellence, raising fears of a possible injury setback. However, the latest update suggests he is on track to play against Kolkata Knight Riders on March 29.

Bumrah is currently undergoing a structured training programme at the CoE focused on strength, conditioning, and workload management. Designed by the BCCI medical team, the plan also factors in India’s upcoming white-ball tour of England. Importantly, the pacer has continued his bowling routines and is expected to rejoin the squad soon, aiming to be fully match-ready for the opener at Wankhede Stadium.

Beyond fitness, Bumrah is also closing in on a major milestone. With 186 wickets in 148 innings for MI, he is just nine short of surpassing Lasith Malinga’s record of 195 wickets for the franchise. Given his consistency and impact, the Indian speedster looks set to become Mumbai Indians’ highest wicket-taker during IPL 2026.
