Jay Shah Applauds Malaysia Cricket for Successful ICC Women’s U19 T20 World Cup Hosting

February 5, 2025: ICC Chairman Jay Shah recently met with the Malaysia Cricket team that helped host the ICC Women’s U19 T20 World Cup in Kuala Lumpur and praised their efforts in organizing a successful event.

Shah took to social media to express his gratitude, saying, “It was a pleasure to meet the hard-working team at @MalaysiaCricket who put on an amazing @ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup. Congrats on a job well done!”

The tournament, which took place in Malaysia, saw the host nation placed in Group A alongside India, Sri Lanka, and West Indies. Unfortunately, Malaysia finished last in the group after losing all their matches.

In the final, India claimed their second consecutive U19 Women’s T20 World Cup title after dominating South Africa. South Africa chose to bat first but were bundled out for just 82 runs. Gongadi Trisha took three wickets, while Aayushi Shukla, Vaishnavi Sharma, and Parunika Sisodia each claimed two wickets. Mieke van Voorst top-scored for South Africa with 23 runs off 18 balls.

India chased down the target of 83 comfortably, despite an early dismissal of Kamalini. Gongadi Trisha’s 44* off 33 balls and Sanika Chalke’s 26* off 22 balls guided India to a nine-wicket victory. Trisha was named both the ‘Player of the Match’ and ‘Player of the Tournament’ for her all-round performances, scoring 309 runs in seven innings at an average of 77.25, with a strike rate of 147. She also claimed seven wickets in the competition. Vaishnavi Sharma was the tournament’s top wicket-taker, with 17 wickets at an average of 4.35.

The ICC Women’s U19 T20 World Cup final between India and South Africa was held on February 2, 2025, at Bayuemas Oval, and it was a memorable event with a vibrant atmosphere. Malaysian Cricket expressed its appreciation for the fans’ support, saying, “Thank you to all supporters for making the U19 Women’s T20 World Cup 2025 a great success.”
