February 11, 2025: West Indies spinner Jomel Warrican and Australia batter Beth Mooney have been named the ICC Men’s and Women’s Players of the Month for January 2025.
Warrican, who led the West Indies to their first Test win in Pakistan since 1990, took home his maiden ICC Men’s Player of the Month award. He claimed 19 wickets in two Test matches at an average of just 9.00, including career-best figures of 7/32 in the second innings of the second Test. His all-round brilliance, which also included a vital 36 not out in a pivotal batting performance, helped secure a historic 120-run victory for the West Indies, and he was named Player of the Series.
In the women’s category, Mooney was in scintillating form during Australia’s Ashes series against England. Her resilience in a match-winning 50 in the third ODI and powerful performances in the T20Is, including a blistering 94*, earned her the Player of the Month award. Mooney’s brilliant strike rate of 146.89 in the T20Is capped off a memorable month, further solidifying her position as one of the top batters in world cricket.
Both players were recognized for their extraordinary contributions, with Warrican becoming the first West Indian to win the award since May 2024, and Mooney continuing Australia’s dominance in the monthly honors after Annabel Sutherland’s win in December 2024.
