Buttler’s unbeaten 97 and Rutherford’s powerful 43 help GT chase down 204, toppling DC in a high-octane thriller at Ahmedabad
Ahmedabad, April 19: Gujarat Titans (GT) delivered a commanding performance to defeat Delhi Capitals (DC) by seven wickets in a high-scoring IPL 2025 clash at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Saturday. Powered by a stunning unbeaten 97 from Jos Buttler and a crucial 43-run knock from Sherfane Rutherford, GT successfully chased down DC’s formidable total of 203/8 with three balls to spare.
With their fifth win in seven games, GT moved to the top of the points table, while DC slipped to second after suffering only their second loss of the season.
Buttler Anchors Chase After Early Blow
Chasing 204, GT lost skipper Shubman Gill early, run out for 7. Buttler then steadied the innings with Sai Sudharsan (36), and later found a reliable partner in Rutherford, as the duo stitched a match-defining 119-run stand.
Buttler’s innings was a masterclass in T20 batting – 97* off 54 balls, studded with 11 fours and 4 sixes. Despite falling just short of a century, his knock was instrumental in GT’s dominant chase. Rutherford played a supporting role, hammering 43 off 34 balls before departing in the 19th over.
Rahul Tewatia sealed the victory with a six and a four off the first two balls of the final over, ensuring GT reached 204/3 in 19.3 overs.
DC’s Solid Start Undone by Krishna’s Four-Wicket Haul
Batting first, DC rode on brisk contributions from Axar Patel (39), Ashutosh Sharma (37), KL Rahul (28), and Karun Nair (31) to post 203/8. Despite the strong foundation, Prasidh Krishna pegged them back with a 4-wicket haul (4/41), including three key wickets in the death overs.
GT pacers Mohammed Siraj, Arshad Khan, Sai Kishore, and Ishant Sharma chipped in with a wicket apiece, effectively stalling DC’s momentum in the latter half.
