Brisbane [Australia], December 16: India’s pace sensation Jasprit Bumrah continues to etch his name in cricketing history, claiming his 50th Test wicket in Australia with a stellar performance at The Gabba. Bumrah’s fiery spell not only dismantled Australia’s batting lineup but also reaffirmed his status as one of the world’s leading fast bowlers.
On Day 2, Bumrah stood head and shoulders above his peers, finishing with remarkable figures of 6/76, his second-best bowling performance in Australia. His deadly precision with the second new ball was a game-changer, removing Mitchell Marsh (5) and a well-set Travis Head (152) in a single over. This spell brought Australia’s innings to a halt at 445 on the morning of Day 3.
Bumrah’s milestone of 50 Test wickets in Australia came in just 10 matches at a phenomenal average of 17.82, showcasing his dominance in hostile conditions. His economy rate of 2.70 in this innings was the most frugal among the Indian bowlers, as the rest of the attack struggled against Australia’s batting depth.
The Australian openers, Usman Khawaja and Nathan McSweeney, have found Bumrah an insurmountable challenge throughout the series. They have managed just 30 runs in 121 balls against him, averaging a paltry 4.28, with Bumrah dismissing them seven times so far.
Bumrah’s consistency and ability to deliver under pressure were on full display as he spearheaded India’s fightback in the third Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
