Jets QB Justin Fields Carted Off Practice Field With Apparent Lower Leg Injury
FLORHAM PARK, N.J. – July 24, 2025 – New York Jets quarterback Justin Fields was carted off the practice field Thursday morning with an apparent lower leg injury, raising immediate concerns about the team’s starting signal-caller just as training camp gets underway.
The incident occurred during team drills when Fields pulled up after rolling to his right and throwing an incomplete short pass to tight end Jeremy Ruckert. He went down, sat on the ground briefly, and then limped off the field with the assistance of a trainer.
Fields spent a few minutes being evaluated in the injury tent before a cart arrived to transport him. He was then taken to the locker room, sitting in the passenger seat of the cart, and was able to walk into the team facility under his own power. The exact nature and severity of the injury have not yet been disclosed by the Jets, but multiple reports from reporters on site described it as a non-contact injury.
Fields, who signed a two-year, $40 million contract as a free agent this offseason, was named the Jets’ undisputed starter in March, a move that signaled a new era for the franchise after parting ways with Aaron Rodgers. His injury casts a shadow over the team’s aspirations for the upcoming 2025 season.
Following Fields’ departure, veteran quarterback Tyrod Taylor stepped in to take over the first-team reps in team drills. The Jets will be holding their breath for an official update on Fields’ condition as they prepare for the season.
