Lahore [Pakistan], November 12: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is set to formally address the International Cricket Council (ICC) following India’s recent stance against participating in the ICC Champions Trophy scheduled to be held in Pakistan next year, as reported by Geo News.
According to sources, PCB plans to send a letter to the ICC within the next two days, in line with guidelines provided by the Pakistani government. The board, currently led by Mohsin Naqvi, is expected to request clear explanations from the ICC regarding the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) reported refusal to participate.
The move comes as India maintains its long-standing stance of not traveling to Pakistan due to security concerns, a position BCCI officials have reiterated. Earlier this year, BCCI Vice-President Rajeev Shukla stated that any decision to visit Pakistan would ultimately depend on the Indian government’s approval.
Tense political relations between India and Pakistan have limited their cricket interactions to ICC and Asia Cup tournaments. The last time India visited Pakistan was in 2008 for the Asia Cup, with their last bilateral series held in 2012-13 in India.
Last year’s Asia Cup saw a hybrid hosting model due to similar tensions. Pakistan hosted matches within its borders, while India’s games took place in Sri Lanka. PCB’s latest appeal to the ICC seeks to clarify India’s position, as the board aims to secure participation for the high-profile 2025 Champions Trophy in Pakistan.
