Indian all-rounder achieves milestone during first ODI against England in Nagpur
Nagpur, February 7: Ravindra Jadeja etched his name in the record books during the first ODI against England at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium on Thursday, becoming the fifth Indian bowler to claim 600 international wickets across all formats.
The left-arm spinner delivered a stunning spell, bagging 3/26 in nine overs, including a maiden over. He dismissed Joe Root, Jacob Bethell, and Adil Rashid, helping India restrict England to 248 in 47.4 overs.
Jadeja Joins India’s Bowling Greats
With this feat, Jadeja joins an elite club, featuring legendary bowlers like:
- Anil Kumble (956 wickets)
- Ravichandran Ashwin (719 wickets and counting)
- Harbhajan Singh (711 wickets)
- Kapil Dev (687 wickets)
The Saurashtra-born all-rounder also made a handy contribution with the bat, remaining unbeaten on 12 off 10 balls, including two boundaries.

England won the toss and elected to bat first. Openers Phil Salt (43 off 26 balls, 5 fours, 3 sixes) and Ben Duckett (32 off 29 balls, 6 fours) provided an explosive 75-run opening stand. However, India fought back, reducing England to 111/4, with Joe Root (19) failing to convert his start.
Skipper Jos Buttler (52) and Jacob Bethell (51) stitched together a 59-run partnership, while Jofra Archer’s late cameo (21)* helped England post 248.
For India, Jadeja and Harshit Rana (3/53) were the standout bowlers, while Axar Patel, Mohammed Shami, and Kuldeep Yadav picked up a wicket each.
India will now face England in the second ODI on Sunday in Cuttack, with a chance to seal the series.
