Lizelle Lee Fined After WPL Outburst
Delhi Capitals star penalised for equipment abuse despite team’s win
January 21, 2026: Delhi Capitals wicketkeeper-batter Lizelle Lee was fined 10 per cent of her match fees and handed one demerit point for breaching the WPL Code of Conduct during her team’s match against Mumbai Indians on Wednesday. According to an official WPL release, Lee admitted to a Level 1 offence under Article 2.2, which relates to the abuse of cricket equipment. For such breaches, the match referee’s decision is final and binding.
The incident occurred in the 11th over of Delhi’s chase of 155 when Lee was adjudged stumped for 46 following a prolonged third-umpire review. Television replays showed her bat momentarily lifted off the crease as wicketkeeper Rahila Firdous removed the bails, ending Lee’s innings four runs short of her third half-century of the season. Although visibly disappointed, Lee later played down the moment, praising the keeper’s effort during the post-match presentation.
Delhi Capitals, however, ensured the controversy did not affect the result. Skipper Jemimah Rodrigues returned to form with a composed 37-ball 51 not out, guiding her side to a seven-wicket victory. The win kept Delhi firmly in the playoff race, with four teams now tied on four points, while Royal Challengers Bengaluru continue to lead the standings.
