Mark Chapman To Miss 3rd ODI Against Pakistan, Tim Seifert Continues As Replacement

April 4, 2025: New Zealand’s Mark Chapman will miss the third and final ODI of the series against Pakistan at Mount Maunganui due to a hamstring injury.

Chapman had initially missed the second ODI due to a minor hamstring tear that occurred while fielding during the series opener in Napier. An assessment during training confirmed that he had not recovered enough to be included in the playing XI for the final match of the series.

Tim Seifert, who replaced Chapman in the second ODI, will continue to serve as his replacement for the third match. Seifert had been called in after Chapman’s injury and played an important role during the recent T20I series, where his blistering performances helped New Zealand seal a 4-1 series win over Pakistan. Despite his impressive form in T20Is, Seifert hasn’t played an ODI for New Zealand since January 2019.

Chapman had been in spectacular form before his injury, scoring a career-best 132 in the first ODI, leading New Zealand to a comfortable 73-run victory. His absence did not affect New Zealand’s dominance in the second ODI, as they took an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series. Pakistan struggled throughout the match, with only Tayyab Tahir managing to reach double digits among the top six batters.

In addition to Chapman’s injury, New Zealand has already lost Tom Latham for the series after he fractured his hand during training before the first ODI. The team has managed to perform well despite these setbacks, with Ben Sears taking a five-wicket haul in the second ODI and Mitchell Hay scoring an unbeaten 99* to help seal another comprehensive win for the Blackcaps.
