Mets Schedule: Huascar Brazoban’s Future Amidst Bullpen Shifts

July 24, 2025: Don’t expect Huascar Brazoban to be traded or released, but his role with the New York Mets might be shifting as the Mets schedule heats up. Acquired as a superb pickup at last year’s trade deadline from the Miami Marlins, Brazoban was a reliable arm for a significant portion of this season. However, reality has set in; his performance hasn’t been as consistent lately.

Minor League Options Come into Play

While Brazoban has shown improvement after a few rough outings, the key factor in his immediate future is his remaining minor league options. This flexibility means he could find himself shuttling between the major and minor leagues on a somewhat regular basis.

If the Mets make the anticipated two additions at the upcoming trade deadline, they’ll suddenly have two relievers with options: Brazoban and Reed Garrett. Notably, Garrett has pitched far better than Brazoban this season, making Brazoban a more likely candidate for demotion if roster spots become tight.

The Looming Trade Deadline Impact

The Mets could also look to acquire a pitcher similar to Brazoban — a reliever with minor league options — as one of their deadline additions. Former Marlins teammate Anthony Bender fits this description, and there are plenty of other potential targets. The team has previously shown a willingness to send down even well-performing players like Max Kranick when roster adjustments were needed.

Brazoban’s recent struggles with being more hittable likely won’t shield him from being moved from a major league mainstay. He may, as he did last year, revert to being one of several arms rotated through the bullpen, highlighting the competitive nature of a big-league pitching staff.
