Mitchell Marsh Shares Hilarious “Bumrah Nightmare” Story From Backyard Cricket

February 3, 2025: Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh recently shared a lighthearted story about a “nightmare” moment he experienced while playing backyard cricket with his four-year-old nephew. During the game, Marsh’s nephew, Ted, decided to bowl using the iconic action of Indian pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah. This unexpected twist led to a funny but frustrating moment for Marsh, who joked about the challenge in a video for cricket.com.au.

“My little nephew Ted, he is four years old, we played backyard cricket the other day. He came in with Bumrah’s action, and the nightmare continued,” Marsh laughed, recalling the amusing encounter.

While the backyard cricket match was a fun family moment, Marsh’s comments drew a comparison to his real-life experiences facing Bumrah, who was a constant threat to Australia during the recent Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Despite Australia winning the series 3-1, Bumrah’s relentless bowling and record-breaking performances made him a nightmare for the Australian batters. The Indian pacer claimed 32 wickets across five matches, with a stunning average of 13.06, and was the highest wicket-taker of the series.

In his own performance during the series, Marsh had a tough run, scoring only 73 runs in four matches at an average of 10.42, and picking up just three wickets. Marsh humorously acknowledged his poor form, cracking a joke about how he felt “a lot of love” from Australian fans before December but not as much after his form took a nosedive.

“I think (the successful year) it was capped off by the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, especially with 10 players, especially without me, they did very well,” he said with a smile. “Prior to December, I felt a lot of love. Post December, a bit of a different story. All jokes aside, over the past few years I have felt a lot of love from the Australian fans,” Marsh added.

Despite his personal struggles with form, Marsh’s sense of humor and self-awareness continue to make him a fan favorite, and it’s clear that his light-hearted approach to the game helps him stay grounded even in tough times.
