In the opening match of the highly anticipated ODI tri-series between New Zealand, Pakistan, and South Africa, New Zealand’s captain Mitchell Santner won the toss and decided to bat first at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on Saturday. This tri-series is seen as a crucial warm-up opportunity for all three teams as they fine-tune their preparations ahead of the Champions Trophy, set to begin on February 19 in Karachi.

Santner, in his pre-match interview, seemed optimistic about the conditions, saying, “It’s a good wicket to be fair, and we don’t think it will change much. It wasn’t too wet the other night. We want to put some runs on the board. It’s very important for us to understand how the pitches will behave before the Champions Trophy.”

With a balanced team combination, New Zealand has gone in with three quick bowlers in an attempt to get used to the conditions ahead of the big tournament. Pakistan, on the other hand, led by Mohammad Rizwan, also has a solid lineup and is focusing on preparations for the Champions Trophy, which will kick off with a high-profile game in Karachi.

Rizwan, during the toss, said, “It’s a good chance for us before the Champions Trophy. We are excited and ready for the tri-series to prepare for the big tournament. As I mentioned before, Babar Azam will open with Fakhar Zaman. We have Rauf, Afridi, and Naseem Shah in the lineup to bolster our pace attack.”
