September 22, 2025: Former Delhi and Jammu and Kashmir all-rounder Mithun Manhas has been elected unopposed as the new president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). This is a historic move.
Manhas, who put his name in for the position on Sunday, is the first uncapped player and the first Indian cricketer from Jammu and Kashmir to hold the top spot.
After a number of important meetings, board members agreed on his name. Manhas was elected to the board without any opposition at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the board.
This was in line with the Lodha Committee’s suggestion that a player should be in charge of the board. Devajit Saikia was re-elected as secretary, and Raghuram Bhat, who used to play cricket, was chosen as the new treasurer.
Former colleagues like Virender Sehwag and Yuvraj Singh have praised Mithun Manhas for his cricketing intellect. He has an impressive first-class record of 9714 runs. His nomination is a new beginning for the board, signifying a greater focus on administration by cricketers. After his election, Manhas made a short statement thanking everyone for their “trust and faith” in him and vowing to fight to improve Indian cricket.
