March 16, 2025: Amelia Kerr’s dream run continues, as the New Zealand and Mumbai Indians (MI) all-rounder helped her side secure the Women’s Premier League (WPL) title. Kerr was instrumental in MI’s victory during the final against Delhi Capitals, where she delivered an exceptional bowling performance, claiming figures of 2/25 in her four overs. Her wickets of Jess Jonassen and Jemimah Rodrigues were key in restricting the Capitals’ chase of 150 runs, ensuring they never gained momentum.
Her stellar performance throughout the season earned her the prestigious Purple Cap as the leading wicket-taker of the 2025 WPL season, finishing with 18 wickets at an average of 15.94. Her best figures of the season were 5/38, a remarkable achievement that also tied her with MI teammate Hayley Matthews for the most wickets in a single WPL season.

Although her batting didn’t shine as brightly this season, with just 73 runs from eight innings, Kerr’s dominance with the ball made her one of the standout players in the tournament. This success comes after an equally impressive run during the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024, where Kerr played a pivotal role in New Zealand’s historic first 20-overs world title. In the final against South Africa, Kerr earned the ‘Player of the Match’ award, contributing 43 runs off 38 balls and taking key wickets, including those of Laura Wolvaardt, Anneke Bosch, and Annerie Dercksen, helping her side to defend their total of 158/5 successfully.

Kerr was also named the ‘Player of the Tournament’ in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup for her extraordinary performance, taking 15 wickets in six matches at an impressive average of 7.33. Her consistency with the ball helped New Zealand’s success, while her bat also contributed crucial runs, particularly in the final.
Not only did she shine in the World Cup, but her performances in T20I cricket earned her the ICC Women’s T20I Player of the Year award for 2024. Kerr’s 29 wickets in the calendar year, alongside her 387 runs, established her as one of the most dominant forces in women’s T20I cricket. No New Zealand women’s cricketer has ever taken as many wickets in a year as Kerr, underscoring her incredible impact on the game.
As her dream run continues, Kerr’s performances are a testament to her all-round capabilities, making her one of the most exciting and consistent players in international women’s cricket.
