July 5, 2025: The much-anticipated Neeraj Chopra Classic 2025 is set to kick off at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru, bringing some of the world’s best javelin throwers to Indian soil. The event, co-organised by JSW Sports and Olympic gold medallist Neeraj Chopra, has been granted the prestigious ‘gold status’ by World Athletics, marking it as one of the top-tier global athletics competitions.
In an exciting reveal, the throwing order was announced with India’s Sahil Silwal opening the event and Neeraj Chopra slated to throw last in the 12th spot. Chopra, widely regarded as India’s greatest athlete, expressed a calm confidence ahead of the competition, stating his focus is on performing at his best without any added pressure.
Originally planned to be held in Panchkula, Haryana, the event was relocated to Bengaluru, home to the Indian Super League club Bengaluru FC, which is owned by JSW Sports. The Sree Kanteerava Stadium will host a thrilling line-up featuring international competitors such as Curtis Thompson (USA), Martin Konecny (Czechia), Julius Yego (Kenya), Cyprian Mrzyglod (Poland), Luiz Mauricio da Silva (Brazil), and Thomas Rohler (Germany)—the 2016 Olympic champion known for his 93.90m personal best.
While notable athletes like Grenada’s Anderson Peters and Asian Games silver medallist Kishore Jena had to withdraw due to injuries, the field remains competitive. Arshad Nadeem, the Paris Olympics champion, is also absent following recent controversies.
Chopra comes into the event as the clear favourite, having recently surpassed the 90-meter mark for the first time earlier this year at the Doha Diamond League, and winning the Paris Diamond League with an impressive 88.16m throw. His latest outing was a victory at the Ostrava Golden Spike with a best throw of 85.29m.
Among Chopra’s main challengers is Brazil’s Luiz Mauricio da Silva, who placed third at the Paris Diamond League with a throw of 86.62m. Indian contender Sachin Yadav, who claimed silver at the Asian Athletics Championships, is also in the mix.
As the event draws near, anticipation is high for what promises to be a spectacular showcase of javelin talent on home turf, with Neeraj Chopra aiming to add another chapter to his storied career.
