February 15, 2025: New Zealand clinched a comfortable five-wicket victory over Pakistan in the final of the tri-nation series in Karachi, enhancing their position in the ICC Men’s ODI team rankings. The Black Caps successfully chased down Pakistan’s target of 243 in just 45.2 overs, with key contributions from Daryl Mitchell (57), captain Tom Latham (56), Devon Conway (48), Kane Williamson (34), and Glenn Phillips (20*).

Despite a recent dip in form, Latham played a pivotal role in guiding his team to victory. The real heroes, however, were New Zealand’s bowlers, particularly pacer Will O’Rourke, who was the standout performer with figures of 4/43 in 9.3 overs. Mitchell Santner and Michael Bracewell also made vital contributions with two wickets each, while Nathan Smith and Jacob Duffy took one each.

This victory serves as a strong confidence booster for New Zealand ahead of the 2025 Champions Trophy. The two teams are set to meet again in the tournament opener on February 19 at the same venue.

As a result of their unbeaten run in the series, New Zealand moved up in the ICC ODI rankings, improving their team rating from 100 to 105 and securing the fourth spot with 4,414 points from 42 matches. Meanwhile, Pakistan dropped to third place with a rating of 107.
