While celebrating this joyous occasion, Cummins is currently missing out on Australia’s ongoing tour to Sri Lanka to be with his family. Unfortunately, the Australian cricket team is facing a tough time on the injury front as well. Both Cummins and fellow pacer Josh Hazlewood have been ruled out of the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy due to injuries.

Cummins is battling an ankle issue sustained during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, where he bowled an impressive 167 overs to take 25 wickets, while Hazlewood has been dealing with a recurring hip problem. The absence of these two key players, along with injuries to Mitchell Marsh and the shock retirement of Marcus Stoinis, has left Australia’s pace bowling depth severely depleted.

Australia now faces the challenge of finding four replacements for these key players, including at least two all-rounders, to balance the squad ahead of the Champions Trophy. The final squad for the tournament will be announced after the ongoing second Test against Sri Lanka at Galle.

Marsh, who withdrew from the Champions Trophy due to a worsening back injury, is currently undergoing rehabilitation. Both Cummins and Hazlewood are expected to need extended periods of recovery before being cleared to return to action, with their participation in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) also in doubt.

As Australia’s focus shifts to their upcoming commitments, the team is already preparing for their next major international clash – the ICC World Test Championship final against South Africa, scheduled for mid-June at Lord’s.

Australia’s preliminary squad for the Champions Trophy (still to be finalized) includes Pat Cummins (captain), Alex Carey, Nathan Ellis, Aaron Hardie, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Marnus Labuschagne, Glenn Maxwell, Matt Short, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc, Marcus Stoinis, and Adam Zampa.
