PM’s XI-India Warm-Up Match Now A 50-Over Game To Be Played On Sunday

November 30, 2024: The rain disruption on Day 1 has led to an adjustment in the schedule for the two-day warm-up match between India and the Prime Minister’s XI. The match, originally intended to be a day-night fixture, will now be a 50-over per side game, and will begin on Sunday at 9:10 am IST, with the coin toss scheduled for 8:40 am IST.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed the changes on X (formerly Twitter), writing: “Update: PM’s XI v India – Manuka Oval. Play has been abandoned for Day 1 and will resume tomorrow (Sunday) at 9:10 am IST. Coin toss will be at 8:40 am IST. Teams have agreed to play 50 overs per side.”

This adjustment follows the cancellation of Day 1’s play in Canberra due to persistent rain, which has affected the originally planned two-day practice match. The two teams will now have one final opportunity to fine-tune their preparations in a 50-over format ahead of the much-anticipated Border-Gavaskar Trophy series.

Prime Minister’s XI Squad:

Jack Edwards (C), Matt Renshaw, Jack Clayton, Oliver Davies, Jayden Goodwin, Sam Harper (WK), Charlie Anderson, Sam Konstas, Scott Boland, Lloyd Pope, Hanno Jacobs, Mahli Beardman, Aidan O’Connor, Jem Ryan.

India Squad:

  • Rohit Sharma (C), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant (WK), KL Rahul, Dhruv Jurel, Nitish Reddy, Washington Sundar, Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Jasprit Bumrah, Prasidh Krishna, Mohammed Siraj, Akash Deep, Harshit Rana, Sarfaraz Khan, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Devdutt Padikkal.

This warm-up match serves as an important preparation for both teams, particularly for India, who are coming off a sensational 295-run victory in the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Perth. Despite an early collapse in their first innings, India’s strong all-round performance in the second innings and Kohli’s century were key to the win. The warm-up will give India another chance to fine-tune their strategies and adapt to local conditions before the highly competitive series continues.

With 50 overs per side, the match will be a good test for both teams to sharpen their skills in a limited-overs format, especially for players like India’s pacers and all-rounders, who could use the game to further adjust their line and length in Australian conditions. It will also be a valuable opportunity for the Indian players to get some match practice under their belts before the next Test or limited-overs fixtures.

Fans will be keenly watching the match, especially with so many key players on both sides, including India’s stalwarts like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant, and Jasprit Bumrah, as well as Australia’s strong contingent featuring players like Matt Renshaw, Scott Boland, and Sam Harper.
